The brushlands of Willacy County  are excellent habitat for White-tailed Deer and Wild Turkeys. The foraging must be very good for these big animals because they are common and grow to pretty big sizes. Willacy is where I go when I want to get good shots of deer and turkey and a recent trip resulted in shots of a number of big bucks.

I had looks at several big eight pointers like this one.

Sometimes, more than one deer makes it into the same photo frame.

I also got the chance to see deer foraging for fresh leaves near the ground and in the trees.

It must have been a good summer for deer because I saw more than one youngster.

Turkeys were in the same area as the deer. Perhaps they found some good foraging sites or hung around each other to avoid predators?

With migration really kicking into gear, I hope to see more warblers and other migrants the next time I head into the field.
